Our passion at I For Style is designing timeless, quality interiors that reflect our clients’ interests, passions, values, and what’s important to them. We get a lot of questions about what an Interior Designer does, so over the next few weeks we’ll be explaining the Interior Design process for larger projects and how that process unfolds. This week we take a look at an Interior Design Brief and a sneak preview of the Concept which is our focus for the next Blog.
The Interior Design Brief
The Brief is the initial interior design consultation where we sit with you, begin to get to know you, and get an idea of how you’d like us to be involved in your project. In the Design industry we tend to call this ‘the brief’ vs in the construction industry it’s generally referred to as a ‘scope of works’. Whatever the terminology, it’s important to be clear on what the Interior Designer is being engaged to do before any work commences.
Interior Designers can be engaged in various capacities throughout all stages of interior design planning. For example, the client may want the Interior Designer to act as their representative if they are having a new house built or extensive renovations done. This means the designer is present at all site meetings ensuring the client’s best interests are kept front and centre of all decisions made. Or the interior designer can guide and advise you through the entire selection process for exterior and interior finishes, colours, materials, fixtures and fittings.
In establishing the Brief we will begin to understand your style preferences, what you like and dislike, how you want the space to feel, look, and function. Then we look at budget and timing, and what the clients’ requirements are here.
The Concept
We cover the Concept stage in the next Blog here, but just briefly, it’s all about collaboration between the client and the Interior Designer to understand your overall vision for the project. By giving us a window into your world as well as any ideas you may have, we can add to that our design expertise to create a home that’s unique to you. Check out the full blog on the Concept stage in the process here or, if you need support with your next design project, contact us to book in an Interior Design Brief session or visit us on Facebook or Instagram.
